A dear friend recently told me of a certain religious belief that when a child is born, he is given a body to house his soul. The souls are sent into the world to teach a lesson. Once the lesson is complete, the body will die and release the soul. The most precious souls God only allows to be on this earth for a short time before he calls them home, despite our human desire to keep them close to us. God cannot be without the purist of souls for too long. She went on to say, when she walked by Ben's picture in her house, she too would stop and say "I swear I can see Heaven in that boy's eyes. That family gets to see Heaven every day." That his presence, his joy, his complete and total innocence; they were all meant to remind us of the most basic and untainted love.
I myself am still exploring Ben's Lessons. But, first and foremost, his Life confirmed for me that out of the many things you may regret years down the road, you will never regret the time you spend with your children.
